Fresh off her recent opening at Bergdorf Goodman, award-winning New York pop artist and sassy social critic Kristin Simmons is announcing her debut NFT collection, Feeling Cray, which collectors can view today at KristinSimmonsNFT.com. The outrageous new series blends Simmons’s penchant for wordplay with brazen sexuality and a blatant disregard for social norms.
By engaging with the cutting-edge world of NFTs, Simmons is diving headfirst into the bold world of blockchains and the metaverse while adding her signature feminine flair. Feeling Cray depicts a series of different colored crayons, each deceptively innocent until audiences read the descriptions. Simmons has swapped out their typical names with playfully sexy titles, from Vanilla Sex to Dandelion Desecration.
Provocative and in-your-face, the juxtapositions elicit discomfort, excitement and laughter—fitting for an artist whose works have long critiqued capitalist desires, pop sensibilities and the glitter-ification of society. The collection will be available for preview and presale on March 31, 2022, which is National Crayon Day.
Simmons has been connecting with audiences through bright colors for her entire artistic career. On a recent appearance on The Doctors, she recalled how working in a drab cubicle sucked all the joy from her life. “I found that even by adding the smallest changes, by adding colorful pens or Post-It notes or a plant on my desk, that it actually did brighten my mood,” she said. “Those small shifts can lead to big changes and energy shifts.”
NFT owners will gain exclusive early access to future works by Simmons, including physical and digital works, while special NFT holders will be invited to private events hosted by Simmons herself.
The initial drop will comprise 2406 total NFTs, priced at $375 per mint. This will include six truly unique, one-of-one rare NFTs. To pre-mint and learn more, visit KristinSimmonsNFT.com.
